California Department of Developmental Services (Monthly Consumer Caseload Report June 2007), states that there was an increase in caseload management by over 60% from 1997 to 2007. During the same time period the entire state population has increased by less than 15%.

It is obvious to us that we have reached a critical need for housing support for people with developmental disabilities and that appropriate action steps must be taken. We will aggressively search for new affordable housing solutions for our exceptional families by fostering partnerships with developers and state and local governments. We will continue to advocate for below market interest rates, government funding for housing developments and rehabilitation projects, and explore co-housing and other creative home-ownership opportunities for people with disabilities and their families.
